CIVITANOVA (MC): Arriva un bel risultato per il team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack. In provincia di Macerata, a Civitanova Marche, per il GP Industria, Matteo Fiorin conquista un secondo posto e porta a 4 il numero dei podi per la formazione di Antoni Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak e delle famiglie Ballan, D’Aprile e Colleoni.
Il velocista brianzolo è stato preceduto da Lorenzo Cataldo (Gragnano), mentre il terzo posto è andato a Riccardo Lorello della Hopplà. La gara si è corsa su una distanza di poco superiore ai 100 km, percorsi a una media di 46 km/h.
DICHIARAZIONI: Subito dopo l’arrivo, Fiorin non ha avuto molte parole per commentare il suo risultato:
“È stata una sconfitta – la sua prima affermazione – ho perso di 5-10 cm. Un vero peccato perché la vittoria era nelle mie corde.” Il corridore racconta come lo sprint sia stato piuttosto complicato da gestire:
“In effetti è stata una volata confusa in cui ci siamo persi come treno. In teoria, il nostro uomo di punta oggi era Samuel Quaranta, ma a causa di una caduta ai meno 300 metri, tutto si è mischiato. Personalmente ho perso qualche metro, mi sono allargato perdendo la scia.”
Fiorin racconta con rammarico gli ultimi metri della gara: “Perdendo la scia non era semplice spuntarla, ma stavo comunque recuperando. Negli ultimi metri ero ancora in forte rimonta, ma purtroppo non sono riuscito a superare Cataldo, a cui faccio comunque i complimenti.”
Il velocista continua la sua analisi con una riflessione più ampia:
“Perdere brucia, eravamo qui per vincere. Comunque devo pensare in positivo: lo scorso anno, di questi tempi, mi ero rotto la clavicola, perdendo buona parte della prima stagione. Ora invece sto lottando per vincere e sicuramente sto meglio rispetto al 2024. Grazie al team per il grande lavoro. Ora guardo alla Popolarissima e alle altre corse per velocisti.”
Matteo Fiorin è anche un ottimo pistard ed è tesserato per quell’attività con l’Esercito.
TECNICO: In ammiraglia oggi c’era Davide Martinelli. Il tecnico bresciano ha così spiegato la gara:
“Molti hanno provato ad attaccare, ma il percorso era troppo veloce. Le squadre si sono controllate a vicenda e abbiamo aspettato il finale. Il chilometraggio ridotto ha fatto sì che molti arrivassero ancora freschi.”
Martinelli ora si aggregherà al gruppo che si sta preparando in altura e poi sarà alla Settimana Coppi e Bartali.

CIVITANOVA (MC): A great result for the MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack team! In Civitanova Marche, Macerata province, at the GP Industria, Matteo Fiorin claimed second place, bringing the team’s total podium finishes to fourunder the leadership of Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak, and the Ballan, D’Aprile, and Colleoni families.
The Brianzolo sprinter was beaten by Lorenzo Cataldo (Gragnano), while Riccardo Lorello (Hopplà) secured third place. The race covered just over 100 km at an average speed of 46 km/h.
STATEMENTS
Right after the finish, Fiorin had few words to comment on his result: “This feels like a defeat,” he admitted. “I lost by 5-10 cm. A real shame because the win was within my reach.”
He described how the sprint turned out to be quite chaotic: “It was a messy sprint where we lost our lead-out train. Our designated finisher today was Samuel Quaranta, but with 300 meters to go, a crash changed everything. Personally, I lost a few meters and drifted wide, losing the slipstream.”
Fiorin reflected with regret on the final meters of the race: “Losing the slipstream made it hard to come out on top, but I was still closing in. In the last meters, I was making a strong comeback, but unfortunately, I couldn’t pass Cataldo. Congratulations to him.”
Despite the disappointment, Fiorin took a broader perspective:“Losing stings; we came here to win. But I have to stay positive—this time last year, I had broken my collarbone and missed most of the early season. Now, I’m fighting for wins and feeling much better than in 2024. Huge thanks to the team for the great work. Now I’m looking ahead to the Popolarissima and other sprint races.”
Matteo Fiorin is also a top-level track cyclist, competing in that discipline under the Italian Army team.
TECHNICAL INSIGHT
Davide Martinelli was leading the team from the car today. The Brescian coach analyzed the race:
“Many tried to attack, but the course was too fast. The teams kept each other in check, so we waited for the final sprint. The short race distance meant that many riders were still fresh at the finish.”
Martinelli will now join the altitude training camp group before heading to the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali.
